New Mexico
First time: Summer, 1984Last time: Spring, 2014
In 1984 my mom, grandma, sister and I took a vacation to visit my aunt in Tucson, Arizona. During that trip we visited both the Grand Canyon and Carlsbad Caverns. That was the first time I went to New Mexico.
In 1994, Susan and I took essentially the same vacation together, visiting the Grand Canyon, Carlsbad Caverns, and my aunt again. Here are two pictures of me (a) pretending to pet a picture of a bat at Carlsbad Caverns, and (b) climbing over the security fence at the Grand Canyon. One was a better idea than the other.
In 2011 on our trip out west, Susan, the kids and I stopped to visit with two friends of mine, Charles and Paul. Paul gave us a gift of jalapeno bread that was delicious. I will never forget that. Charles, Paul, and Paul's son went with us to the New Mexico History Museum.
And, of course, we once again visited Carlsbad Caverns and the Grand Canyon.
I would be remiss if I did not mention Roswell, New Mexico. It has been a mecca of mine for many years to visit Roswell, which finally happened in 2011. Yes, I know a UFO probably didn't crash in Roswell, and yes, I know that the UFO Museum there in Roswell is a little hokey, but I'm so very glad to have seen it all and marked it off my to do list.
In 2013, while driving out to Arizona for a training class I drove through New Mexico and made a point of visiting several filming locations for the television show Breaking Bad. Here's me inside Los Pollos Hermanos.
You can read about all the Breaking Bad filming locations I visited here.
In 2014 I passed through New Mexico on my way to a training class in Las Vegas, Nevada. I was pressed for time and did not stop.
