About Soulz at Zero (SAZ)

Back before any of us had heard of the Internet and 2400 baud modems were king, there existed an online art "scene". Groups such as iCE, ACiD and TiTAN released monthly "art packs" which were collections of pictures done in various mediums (ANSI and VGA were the two most common). In the mid 90's, some of the groups began expanding their horizons, first adding music sections and later adding small lit sections. Playing off of that idea, The Stranger and I (Jack Flack) came up with the idea of forming our own "lit group", where the focus would be not artwork but poems and short stories. The Stranger suggested the group should have a theme, and came up with our "horror" theme. The name "Soulz at Zero" was plucked from a Souls at Zero poster I had hanging on my bedroom wall (we changed the trailing S to a Z either to avoid any confusion between us and the band or simply because it was a cool thing to do back then, I can't really remember which).

In September of 1994 the first Soulz at Zero pack was released. For two years, The Stranger and I released one Soulz at Zero pack per month. These packs were distributed to several "SAZ Headquarters" BBSs, and were subsequently picked up and redistributed around the world. As Spinal Tap'ish as it might sound, we received fan mail from readers as far away as Canada, Switzerland and even Portugal!

On our two year anniversary In September of 1996, due to lack of time and committment, SAZ closed its doors.
