I began the day by giving her two dozen pink roses. Guys, never underestimate the power of roses. I got no less than a dozen comments from other women while carrying these roses out of Sams and into our building. All the guys I ran into said, “you must be in trouble,” but every woman (most of them I didn’t know) said things like, “my desk is over here, sweetie.” Sweetie? Had I only known women would have addressed me as sweetie years ago for only $40 …

After dropping the kids off at my mom’s, we drove to Musashi’s Japanese Steakhouse. To tell you the truth, neither of us have ever had Japanese food as far as I know. Most of our oriental dining experience comes from $5 buffets. Musashi’s was voted the best Japanese restaurant in Oklahoma City this year, so based on that I made reservations for 8pm. We were seated around 8:25pm, which sounds like a really long wait, but the time went really quickly.

At Musashi’s there are grills all around the restaurant, with sixteen chairs surrounding each one. Susan and I ended up sitting directly in front of the chef. Susan had never tried sushi before, so I ordered a plate of California rolls for an appetizer. The quote of the night? “Hey look, guacamole!”, right before Susan took a big bite of wasabi. She has blisters on her tongue this morning.

Soon the chef rolled into the station and started whipping up some fried rice. I mentioned on our reservation that it was our 10th anniversary, and the chef sculped all that rice into a big heart shape and pointed to us. Then he stuck his spatula under the rice and pumped it, making the heart “beat”. It was really cool!

At one point the chef picked up an egg with his spatula, flipped it up into the air, and caught it on the side (caught in this photo), cracking the egg into the rice. Afterwards he droped the shell, hit it with his spatula and knocked it into the trash, exclaiming, “I Tiger Woods!”

Every couple of minutes the lights would dim and the grills would flare up. It was awesome.

While Susan ordered the steak and chicken special, I ordered Kobe Beef. Kobe Beef is like the veal of the steak world. Only 3,000-4,000 Kobe cows are raised each year in Japan. The cows are fed fatty foods and are given daily massages. The going price is $100 per pound. I had an 8oz one, do the math. It was good, great even, but not the best. I might even pick an Outback steak over it in a pinch.

After four cups of Sake each, sushi rolls, salads, our dinners, and a small piece of anniversary cake graciously provided by Musashi’s, we were ready to call it a night. Me and Musashi pulled it off.
