Today at lunch Susan, Johnny, Emily and myself were talking about diets. It’s the same conversation I’ve heard a million times before. “We should start today!” “No, we should start tomorrow!” “My dad lost a ton of weight on a grapefruit diet!” I get tired of talking about diets because I know really there’s only one — burning more calories than you take in. And as simple as that diet seems to be, I can’t seem to make myself do it.<\/p>\n

At lunch, Emily threw out the idea of a weight loss competition. I’m a pretty competitive person, so I started thinking that yeah, that might work for me. Then she threw out that each person should kick in $100<\/b> — Oh yeah, I’m SO all over that.<\/p>\n

Back pain, heart disease, shortened life span, looking at type 2 diabetes in a few years … none of those things have been able to motivate me, but somehow a couple hundred bucks has set me off. <\/p>\n
