We closed on the house house Friday. It’s officially ours. The house we just purchased is officially the “new house”. The house that has been our house for the past nine years is officially the “old house”, at least until it sells.<\/p>\n

Susan and I have spent the past month boxing up our possessions, preparing to move. I’m always bad at estimates like this, but let’s say 50% of what we own is boxed up and in storage, 25% of what we own is still unpacked, and 25% of what we own are heavy things, like beds and furniture. <\/p>\n

Saturday was moving day. Movers showed up, loaded up, transported, and unloaded 25% of our stuff: our furniture. It took four guys about four hours to load up all of our beds and tables and couches and move them over to the new house. As much as it goes against me to pay movers, every time I saw one of those guys carrying something heavy down our stairs I reminded myself how glad it wasn’t me or my friends doing the work.<\/p>\n

If you’re any good at match, you realize that 75% of our possessions aren’t in the new house. The refrigerator works, but it’s empty. The closets are empty. I don’t have any underwear here.<\/p>\n

Other than the pair I’m wearing, of course.<\/p>\n

Today (it’s Sunday, isn’t it?) we’ll probably make a few small hauls between the hold house and the new house. We’re trying to do things “right” by putting stuff where it goes as it comes in to the new house, but to be honest we’re not all that sure where the “right” spot is. We’re still trying to figure out which room is going to be used for what. I’m sure it’ll all come together.<\/p>\n
