Am I Looking Forward to Star Wars Episode 7?

Each time a morsel of news related to the new Star Wars films currently in production hits the web, I get asked the same question by people: “Are you looking forward to the new Star Wars films?” In short, I am. I saw the original Star Wars the summer of 1977 shortly before I turned four-years-old, and the other two films on opening day. I may have previously mentioned that my dad took me to see Return of the Jedi opening day (May 25, 1983) the day after I had my tonsils removed. I remember standing in line outside the… (read more)

Weekend Updates

Over the weekend I updated the States! section of the website. If you have not checked it out, it’s a list of every states I have ever visited with lots of pictures and mini-stories. In 2013 I added or updated Missouri, Illinois, Indianapolis, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York, Toronto (Ontario), Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. In this weekend’s update I updated Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, Arizona, New Mexico, and Nevada.Check your state — maybe I’ve been there! A Day at the Lawnmower Racers (Redux)

(Apologies if you got this one twice. I killed my webserver earlier and had to recover this one from the cache.) Look — if you’re going to live in Oklahoma you can do one of two things: deny it, or embrace it. Me, I’m all about embracing and experiencing things, which is how my family and I ended up for a second time at the El Reno GRASCAR Races. My dad, Mason and I have attended the races once before. I told my wife it was “three or four years ago” but after finding this old blog entry I guess… (read more)

Andy and the Monster Truck

Earlier today for Facebook’s “Throwback Thursday” I posted the following picture with a bit of a tease as to the story behind the photo. I might as well tell the story. My buddy Andy (seen in the picture above) is pretty much the pillar of honesty — always has been, always will be. Most of his stories that involve debauchery also involve me because, let’s face it, Andy was the nice guy and I was the little devil sitting on his shoulder saying things like, “Hey Andy, wouldn’t it be awesome if we stole that fire extinguisher and set it… (read more)

RIP, Rogmeister

Here at robohara.com I offer e-mail notifications for whenever I post a new blog entry. You can add and remove yourself from the list, so I rarely get bounced e-mails from the mailing list. Unfortunately, last week, I got one. rogmeister@earthlink.net Error Type: SMTP Remote server (209.86.93.226) issued an error. Mail Server sent: RCPT TO: Remote server replied: 550 rogmeister@earthlink.net…User account is overquota Last week while I was in Vegas, my friend Rogmeister passed away at the age of 61. Online communications have redefined the meaning of the word “friend.” I grew up calling BBSes, so it was not uncommon… (read more)

My Personal ATMs (Slot Machines)

I’ve been in Vegas for 12 days now as of this morning. The pace of this class has prevented me from wandering too far into the belly of the Vegas beast, but I have (on three occasions now) had the opportunity to play a slot machine: once at an actual casino, and twice in the vestibule of CVS. It’s always jarring to me to see slot machines outside of casinos. Back home in Oklahoma, that’s the only place you see them. Here in Vegas they’re everywhere including convenient stores and grocery stores. The entry to CVS has a line of… (read more)

Achievement Unlocked: MCSA

As of this morning I’ve been in Vegas for eight days now, attending a Microsoft Windows 2012 boot camp. The class is designed to get you through two Microsoft certifications: MCSA (Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate) and MCSE (Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert). You can think of an MCSA as an associates degree and the MCSE as a bachelors. In six days, this is what we covered: Everything in these books is fair game for test material. For the Windows Server 2012 track, the required tests are “Installing and Configuring Windows Server 2012” (70-410), “Administering Windows Server 2012” (70-411), and “Configuring Advanced… (read more)

Temporary Podcasting Hiatus

I’ve received a couple of e-mails (okay, three) from people wanting to know when the next episodes of You Don’t Know Flack and Sprite Castle will be released. For anyone who didn’t see the last post, I am in Vegas attending a two-week Microsoft MCSE Bootcamp for Server 2012. (One week down, one to go!) I actually did bring a microphone with me in hopes that I would be able to squeeze out a show, but with our current schedule there’s no way that’s going to happen. New shows will be recorded and released in early May when I return… (read more)

Happy 50th Birthday, Ford Mustang

Last week marked the 50th anniversary of the Ford Mustang. I didn’t do anything to celebrate the date, but it did remind me of the the first car I ever owned, a 1979 Ford Mustang. Although it might look dated in the above picture, my 1979 Ford Mustang was only 10 years old when I got it in the summer of 1989. 1979 was the first year of the “third-gen” Mustang, commonly known as the Fox body. My Mustang had over 100,000 miles when I got it — either 120k or 160k, I forget. The car had a maroon interior… (read more)

Minor Pity Party

My sixth month run of no work-related travel ends this weekend as I hit the road and head to Las Vegas for a 2 1/2 week training course. It takes a lot of work to remove all the fun out of a trip to Las Vegas but we’ve managed to do it. My class starts on Monday, April 21, meaning I have to travel out there over the weekend, and it doesn’t end until Saturday, May 3rd, meaning I’ll be traveling back on the weekend as well. The class runs for two straight weeks including the weekend and we’re staying… (read more)
