It would seem criminal for me to not at least comment on the new Star Wars film, Revenge of the Sith — it is, after all, the culmination of the past 28 years of my life. From the day my parents took me to see original Star Wars film back in the summer of 1977 (at the age of three), I’ve been a fan. I got most of the available Star Wars toys that Christmas (which I still own), and have been adding to “the pile” ever since.
If you’re looking for an objective review of the final installment of Star Wars, you won’t get it from me. That’s like asking someone which kid is his or her favorite; it just ain’t gonna happen. I loved Revenge of the Sith. Does that mean it was perfect? Far from; I had a few problems with the plot in general and once again Lucas showed the world why he does really well at developing action scenes and should never write another line of dialogue again. That being said, even if the new film had only consisted of a picture of a dog turd with a lightsaber sticking out of it, I probably still would have liked it. Overall I thought the movie was good, bordering on great. Those who said the last two movies were lacking action will certainly find what they were looking for in Revenge of the Sith.
Susan and I went to the midnight showing Wednesday night opening day and weren’t disappointed. Quail Springs Mall was showing Revenge of the Sith on all 24 screens at 12:01am. Assuming all 24 screens were sold out, we figured there were over 7,000 people at the mall alone there to see RotS (the parking lot confirmed this fact). Susan and I got to our theater around 11:45pm (1:15 early) and ended up sitting on the outside of the second row from the screen (gotta hate that). Before the movie started we were treated to an impromptu lightsaber battle between several high-schoolish boys with more energy than brains.
By the way, if you haven’t seen them, Clone Wars (the cartoon) Volume One is now out on DVD. The two hour cartoon which originally aired in short segments on Cartoon Network fills in a lot of the gaps between Episodes II and III. Definitely worth buying (or at least renting and copying).
