Earlier this year, I was asked to contribute to a book titled “Retro Gaming Hacks”. The book, compiled by Chris Kohler and published by O’Reilly Books, is a compilation of 85 “hacks” that can be performed on old computer and videogame hardware. The parts I wrote pertained to MAME and MAME cabinets. MAME is emulation software that allows computers to play classic arcade games (but without the quarters!). A package arrived in the mail yesterday. When I opened it, I was surprised to find the book! I guess it came out! Like a kid I thumbed through the book to find the sections that I wrote. I also submitted a couple of pictures to the book, including one of my MAME Arcade Cabinet and
the wiring inside, both of which were used within the book as well. Pretty cool stuff!
Retro Gaming Hacks is available through Amazon, O’Reilly’s web site, and many other online book retailers. My first paying writing gig — woo hoo!
