Ho Ho Ow! (Mason’s Stitches)

Mason got to see Santa (again) yesterday after his daycare class performed Christmas songs at an FAA Christmas program. After hopping off Santa’s lap, Mason was so excited that he walked into a chair and bonked his head hard enough to split his head open, right above his eye. The cut swelled quickly and was bleeding enough that we decided a trip to the emergency room was warranted, so off we went.

Here’s a shot of Mason in the car, a bit scared. This is before his eye really started swelling.

After dropping Mason and Susan off at the emergency room entrance I parked the car and took this picture on my way in.

Don’t be fooled by television — a trip to the ER room starts with 15-20 minutes worth of paperwork.

After the shock wore off, Mason calmed down and had a good time playing in his room. We were at the hospital over 3 hours. Most of that time was spent waiting in this room.

While waiting, Susan and Mason passed the time coloring.

The doctor said that the swelling was serious enough to warrant a CT scan, so off we went. The doctor said he had never seen a kid be as still as Mason was. That’s because he fell asleep.

After the swelling went down the doctor determined he could use “DermaBond” (?) instead of stitches. DermaBond is essentially Super Glue, which works just like stitches. The doctor said that he’ll have a scar after it heals, but most likely it’ll just end up looking like a wrinkle.

I’m sure Susan and I have a couple of extra wrinkles ourselves after yesterday.
