Earlier today I landed a paying gig writing videogame reviews for an up and coming website. This comes on the heels of my other paying gig with Videogame Collector Magazine, who I am also writing reviews for. Issue #6 of VGC should be out this month — I can’t wait to see it in print!
On the way home I was pretty stoked about all the writing opportunities that have presented themselves to me over the past couple of years. It wasn’t too long ago that I was spinning my wheels, wasting time writng for second rate websites that didn’t appreciate my efforts. The point isn’t just about getting paid — I love writing for Digital Press, The Log Book, and Review-o-Matic, and I don’t make a dime off of any of those sites. Sometimes it’s more about knowing and liking the owners, being appreciated for my work, and having an intelligent (and vast) audience to speak to. But yeah, don’t get me wrong — getting paid for writing is like icing on the proverbial cake.
So just when I thought the day couldn’t get any better, when I got home I found a large brown box on my front porch. My books! They’re here! I used the closest thing I could find (a screwdriver) to slice open the box’s packing tape, and pulled one out of the box to check it out. It looks pretty good overall. The end result isn’t nearly as thick as I was expecting and the front cover artwork ended up a little off center, but those are little things. The good news is the books have arrived, which means they’ll be for sale at OVGE August 19th, and the following Monday via my website.
