Destination Alaska: Day 5

(Due to limited internet connectivitiy, these posts have been delayed.)

This morning we had breakfast in one of the official dining rooms. The window tables seat 8, so if you ask for a window seat, you’ll most likely get seating with another group. We ended up with a party of three (a dad and his two kids) and another teenager who was there by himself. The converation was light and interesting. Then the dad’s two year old threw up at the table. I guess that’s one way to find out that your kid gets seasick.

After breakfast there was a trivia contest for “Cartoon Trivia”. Basically they showed cartoon characters on a projected screen and you had to write down the names of the characters. After 40, we graded ourselves using the honor system. I got 35/40. Some guy supposedly got 40/40. I hate playing games of contest that are decided using the honor system.

After the trivia contest, Mason and Morgan stopped by Kid’s Club for a bit. I dropped $20 in a slot machine on the boat’s casino and I’m not sure I’ve ever seen $20 disappear so quickly.

We’ve determined today that for some reason my motion sickness patch wasn’t working correctly. We found that out because I’ve been sleeping and puking a lot. I may be the only person that spends a week on a cruise with 24/7 buffets and manages to lose weight.

All over the boat, silly contests are taking place. We saw one where some guys were mixing drinks a’la Cocktail. Another group of guys were taking part in a “hairiest man contest”. All of these are being filmed for a DVD that you can purchase at the end of your cruise.

Toay the boat was really rocky. For most of the cruise we stay within sight of the shore, but not today. The boat rocked back and forth all day long (which didn’t help my headache). Cabinet doors and drawers were banging open and closed all night long.

Outside on the upper decks it’s in the low 50s and, with the wind, fairly cool. We are worried that the hoodies we wore may not be enough to keep us warm.

Susan and Morgan went to a formal dinner tonight while Mason and I found the ship’s sports bar and went down there to watch the Celtics/Miami game. After the game ended, Mason and I wandered around and found the ship’s arcade. There’s are only about a dozen games there but it killed some time.
