Sticking the Landing

For a while Susan and I have been kicking around the idea of enrolling Mason in gymnastics — no so much to create the next olympic gymnast, but rather so he would have a place one day a week to burn off some energy by jumping on a trampoline for an hour. Last night was Mason’s first night of class, and he loved it. For the first 20 minutes the kids did different exercises at various stations — rock climbing, learning how to do handstands and cartwheels, doing forward and backward rolls, and jumping on a small trampoline. The middle 20 minutes had the kids doing floor stretches, playing with sticks, and doing different types of races (skipping, hopping, crawling, etc.). During the last 20 minutes the kids walked on balance beams, swing from gymnastic rings, and did more mat rolling. Mason seemed to have a really great time at class, and I’m sure we’ll be going back for many Mondays to come.

  1. With all the stuff he already does, he’ll be teaching the class before you know it! It’ll be fine just as long as it has monkey bars!
