Susan, Morgan, Mason and Susan’s mother Liz left yesterday for Dallas, where they will catch a flight heading to Jamaica. Susan’s sister Becky and her three kids Jessica, Katie and Dylan are on the road heading toward Miami, where their flight to Jamaica departs Sunday afternoon. The house is completely quiet. Like always, I love it and hate it. I have a list of “to do” items on my whiteboard that I’ve been saving for when I have the house to myself, so I’ve already worked through most of those this morning and have returned to the project that most benefits from a quiet house, finishing the writing of my book.
Had dinner with Dad at Souper Salad last night. It was as good as Souper Salad gets. I don’t know if I will ever shout from the top of a mountain “I LOVE SALAD!” but it sufficed. For dessert I had a piece of watermelon. Mmm. Watermelon. Late last night I went over to Stephen’s to watch boxing on HBO and more of his digital cable channels.
My new MP3 player arrived Friday. It’s a 40 gig Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra from Creative Labs. It doesn’t play videos, which is perfect. The interface and software are just like my old Nomad so there’s been 0 learning curve. I love it, it’s exactly what I wanted. Everyone should have 40,000 minutes worth of audio in their front pocket. The only problem is that it didn’t come with a case, and since it’s last year’s model, no one sells a case for it. I’d rather have it hanging off a belt loop so I can get to the buttons easier than have it stuffed down in a pocket.
Dad and I leave for our Chicago trip Monday, heading first to the casinos in Kansas City. Also on Monday the housesitter arrives. The only thing I have to really show him is how to alarm/disarm the home alarm. Susan and I both feel much safer knowning someone will be in the house while we’re away.
Oh, and in unrelated but GREAT news, I laid down in bed last night and heard a deep and muffled pop come from my lower back. When I woke up this morning, I found I had absolutely no back pain whatsoever. Completely gone. I don’t know what happened, but it appears as though whatever got whacked out of alignment whacked itself back in last night. Hurrah!
You know, I have always wondered at what point in a marriage do the husband and wife start taking different vacations? I know my parents did this, and I know all my mom’s sisters seem to do it too since they’re always going to do stuff with my mom. Just wondering so I know when Laura and I will arrive at that point. I am assuming that it must happen sometime after the arrival of kids.
