“I’ve got to make it through
No matter what it takes
Oh I’ve got to make it through
These three strange days.” – Three Strange Days, School of Fish
Monday: Domain controller in the lab ate itself. Machine locked up and had to be hard cycled. When we powered it back up, it politely informed us that there was no boot device available. Spent hours rebuilding it, stayed an hour late gratis.
Tuesday: Production SQL server died. One drive in the RAID failed, and during the rebuild a second drive failed. Complete loss. Reloaded the server, stayed an hour and a half late gratis.
Wednesday: Same SQL server died again — machine blue screened after being completely reloaded from scratch. Looks like a hardware problem. For the time being, we’ve swapped out the box with another one and started the reload process again. Looks like lunch is not going to happen and will be staying until the reload’s complete.
I lay down for a while
And I woke up on the ocean
Floating on my back
And staring at the gray
It was completely still
Except the pounding of my heart
Bringing me back to life
From three strange days
