Say Hello (and Goodbye) to Banjo

Yesterday (Saturday), I worked 12 1/2 hours of overtime. I came home sore, tired … and to a new puppy. The boy puppy, named Banjo, is an 8-week-old Golden Lab.

So far, the dog has pooped and peed in the house multiple times, yapped loudly anytime he’s been placed outside, and woke everone in the house up just before 6am with his howling. It’s tried chewing up both an Xbox controller and one of Susan’s shoes — and all this is just in the two or three hours we’ve been up today.

Operation “find the dog a new home” has already begun, less than 24 hours after its been in our possession.

  1. Labs are very smart dogs, but they take alot of work. If they do not get the attention that they want, they will be very naughty. After all, bad attention is better than no attention. They are great after they are two years old, if you haven’t killed them by then. If you keep the dog, I would strongly recommend obedience training.

  2. I agree with Diedra’s comment. Just ask my previous neighbor. I watched her lab puppy chew up a trampoline (the big kind), working on it from the bottom up, completely dig up her yard, devour plastic lawn chairs, carry large flower pots all over the yard, and destroy a swimming pool (the softside kind, 14 foot across). They have a wonderful temperament with kids, are extremely protective of them, but are large enough that they can tear up a whole lot. Also, they don’t do well with a lot of alone time. But until you find him a new home, I have the kennel and also the outside dog house if you need them.
