TRON Toys

Target, Toys-R-Us. and several other toy retailers stocked up on new TRON toys about a month ago. Now they are all on sale. and that’s when I buy them. The ones I really wanted were the new TRON Light Cycles, and man are they cool.

For $13.99 (originally $19.99), the white cycle (Kevin Flynn’s) doesn’t come with an action figure. The black cycle, however, comes with Sam Flynn, Kevin’s son. While he’s removable, he’s eternally stuck in a “I’m riding a light cycle” pose. He doesn’t even stand up on his own — I had to prop a binder clip under his foot for the picture.

Here’s the black cycle again, up against a paper background.

And, here’s the same picture after 10 minutes of Photoshopping.

But who will save poor Sam? Flynn? TRON? Where are you guys?

“We’ve been stuck on these cards since 1982! Help us!”

(Do not help them escape the original packaging …)

  1. Wal-Mart seems to be the only retailer to get CLU’s version of the deluxe light cycle. I have yet to see one in person but from what I gather online it’s a different mold than Sam’s and has the little split fin on the back, mirroring CLU’s light cycle design in the movie.

  2. There’s also a second wave of figures that seems to be exclusive to Target stores and Amazon.com – Quorra (though I’m honked off that they went for the cheap cop-out of covering her face with the black helmet that she wore for all of two minutes in the movie), Castor and Jarvis (Clu’s shifty right-hand man who switches loyalties late in the game). There’s also apparently a “Rinzler Redeemed” figure coming out that’ll be Rinzler with white/blue interior lighting instead of red.

The figures are really cool, I just wish they weren’t being cheap (i.e. if everyone has faceless helmets on, the actors don’t have to be paid for their likeness).
