After playing with my friend Ty’s zoom lens the weekend before last, I decided I needed one too. Ty recommended Tamron’s 23mm-300mm for my Pentax K-x. You only lose a little bit on the close up side (the default lens is an 18mm-55mm), but the zoom is incredible.
Here’s a picture I took of Mason zoomed all the way out.
After zooming in, I took this next shot. Neither of us physically moved between shots.
While I was playing around with the lens, a fly landed on my leg. Zoomed out, here’s what the guy looked like.
And, zoomed in:
I gotta get one of those for my Nikon.
I’m impressed with the sharpness of the fly on the last shot. Usually when an object is that close the zoom lens will only give a fuzzy image.
Earlier this year I entertained the thought of getting one of those really big zoom lenses for my Canon Rebel. I put the idea permanently on hold when the store clerk told me that they only start making them when you pay a bond in advance. $12,000. GULP. I guess I’ll stay with my measly 55-250 zoom lens.
