I haven’t had a cool dream in long time, but I really enjoyed this one last night so I thought I would share it.
In my dream, I was some sort of army guy being chased down a mountainside through the woods. There were people chasing me, people I needed to shoot. About the time I realized I didn’t have a gun, I found a rifle hidden underneath some leaves. I ducked behind some rocks and aimed my rifle at my pursuers, but then realized I didn’t have any bullets. I kept moving down the mountainside and found some clips full of bullets sitting on a rock. That’s when I realized someone was helping me by leaving things lying around in the forest. This continued for a while. When I got hungry, someone left me food. When I got cold, someone left me a blanket.
When I got to the bottom of the mountain, I found a small cabin. I ducked inside and peeked out the window. At the top of the mountain I could see someone else running for their life. Somehow I knew they needed a rifle, so I ran back up the mountain and planted the rifle where that person would find it. Then I realized I hadn’t left any bullets, so I pulled out some clips and set them on a rock.
This continued all the way down the mountain until I realized that the person coming down the mountain was also me — another “me”. A “me” before me had been the one to leave all those things out for me to find, and now it was my job to help the next “me” down the mountain — and, no doubt, that “me” would then return the favor for the “me” after that.
I have no idea what this means. Wait, yes I do. It means no more huffing paint before bed.
It might mean you have to quit playing some of those video games just before bedtime. Also no more pickles and ice cream!
It means you dreamed the story “By His Bootstraps” by Robert A. Heinlein.
Never read it, but will definitely check it out. I was thinking “12 Monkeys” myself, but it’s been years since I saw that.
That is pure insanity! I love it.
“By His Bootstraps” is almost a perfect fit for your dream. “12 Monkeys”? Not so much. You’ll understand once you read the story.
