Mason’s been bugging me for a couple of weeks to “get the e-mail”, so earlier this week I set him up an e-mail account. If you need his e-mail address, e-mail me and I will give it to you. Also, don’t send him anything you don’t want me to read. One of the perks of being the administrator of your own e-mail server is getting copies of everything that goes into and comes out of his account. He’s seven-years-old.
Over the past couple of days he’s e-mailed granny and one of his buddies from daycare (Tasker). This morning when he came out of his room, he said “I want to e-mail Steve, Shawn and the Magic Man.” Steve, Shawn and the Magic Man are the morning DJs on Magic 104, and apparently they’re a fairly computer-literate bunch: they’re both on Twitter and regularly announce their e-mail address on the show. Mason knew the address so I figured it was fair game. Here is what he e-mailed them:
HI MYNAME IS MASON AND I AM 7! I WOULD LIKE A REQUEST FOR MY BEST FRIENDS.PLEASE PLAY EYE OF THE TIGER WE LIKE THAT SONG BECAUSE THAT SONG IS ON GUTAR HERO WORLD TOUR
Before sending the message, I added the following:
(Mason listens to 104.1 every morning in the car on the way to The Launching Pad daycare out at the FAA. Mason’s class also listens to 104.1 during the day. -Dad)
We waited to hit “Send” until right before we left. We clicked “Send”, got in the car, grabbed breakfast from McDonald’s and got on the Interstate. And then, we heard Mason’s e-mail being read on the air. I knew it was going to be his when Shawn mentioned that they had an “e-quest” from “one of their younger listeners”. They mentioned the FAA, The Launching Pad and Mason’s name on the air, which made his day. Plus we got to listen to Eye of the Tiger on the way to work, which made mine.
Can’t wait to see who the boy wants to e-mail tomorrow.
Oh, boy. Now he’s hooked for sure. I just wondered what took him so long, since he is his father’s child (and his mother’s). He comes by computer naturally!
Alex has been bugging me for the same. Perhaps it’s about time.
He also wants a DP account. Uh…no.
The first sentence in the book that he writes will be “It all started the day I e-mailed the morning show at 104.1, with a little help from my dad.”
Wow, was i the only one tech-savy enough at age 7 to not only make me own E-mail account, but use it to make a neo-pets account and lie about my age to access the forum?
I guess so. Guess I was lucky enough to have a father who worked for AOL and was using computers since the Commodore PET.
God, I miss him.
