Last week during spring break, Susan, the kids and I took a short vacation to Broken Bow, Oklahoma. A few weeks ago I had mentioned to Susan that I would like to rent a cabin down in that area again. I was envisioning a cabin that slept 4 people. What we ended up with was one that could easily sleep 20.
After a four hour drive it’s nice to be able to enter a cozy cabin, kick your shoes off, and stretch your legs. Stretching our legs in this place was not a problem. What I thought was going to be a tiny cabin turned out to be more like a community center.
The “Grand Room” (as I dubbed it) had a large sectional couch with additional seating next to it, a poker table, a bar, an electric/gas fireplace, and a woodburning stove. In the center of the room facing the couch was a 70″ flat screen television. Three of the room’s four walls had large windows that offered a view into the surrounding forest, while the fourth wall opened up in the kitchen and dining room.
Here’s a view looking into the room from the sectional:
Susan and I staked our claim on the master bedroom, but trust me, there was no shortage of beds. Just down the fall from our room was a set of full-size bunk beds, nestled into a fun fort-like nook for kids. Further down the hall was another room that contained a king-size bed in the corner, and two sets of queen-sized bunk beds.
So far I had found two full beds, four queen beds, and two king beds, along with multiple couches.
I suppose if you’re going to rent a cabin for 20 people, you’ll need a way to feed them.
Just out of view here is the dining room table for 8. Back behind the two islands was another table for four. With all the bars and barstools, seating a clan would not be a challenge. Just off the dining room was a home office with a wrap around and office chairs that could be used for additional eating space, if needed.
Connected to our cabin was… another cabin. The second cabin was laid out more like a large, open-concept studio apartment. The kitchen, dining room, master bedroom (check off another king-sized bed) and living room were all one large open area. This opened up into the garage, which is where we found this:
The kids quickly found the air hockey table, the foosball table, the pool table, the ping-pong table, the dart board, and the arcade game. The large, heavy duty bean bags were facing another television and to be honest I’m surprised my kids didn’t sleep right there.
The entire cabin felt cozy and yet huge. The kids had a great time hanging out in the game room while Susan and I relaxed on the sectional couch in the main cabin.
Tomorrow, I’ll show you what the outdoors looked like.
What happened to the exterior?
