Conficker Madness

I am getting swamped today with people worried about the Conficker Virus which is set to do “something” tomorrow, April 1st. If you or someone you know/work with is worried about being infected with the Conficker Worm, here is the simplest test you can do:

Visit microsoft.com.

If you can get to that site, you are not infected. The virus/worm blocks multiple websites from being visited. That’s one of them. If you cannot get to Microsoft.com, you may be infected. Conficker is nasty, but there are several free stand alone tools out there to remove it.

BitDefender’s Tool
Symantec’s Tool

Tomorrow should be interesting. I expect mass destruction, the scale of which we haven’t seen since Y2K. [/sarcasm]

  1. Doesn’t the fact that this thing is supposed to go crazy on April Fool’s Day make anybody else think that all it’s going to do is some stupid crap and all this worry is for nothing?

  2. Get ready for a rough day anyway, if someone stubs their toe tomorrow They’re going to call you knowing the worm is at fault.

As for me, I’ve been contained, controlled, contested, content and even contagious. Many times confused, confronted, conned and on some less than memorable occasions constabled. On this first day of April 2009 however, I refuse to be conficked!

  3. Ok heres what I dont understand. howcome the big anti-virus companies allready have a fix (at a cost) for a virus that isnt out yet?
it kinda has a bad smell to it if you ask me..
