Poker in the front …

This past Friday was our third monthly “Nasty Pirates Night”. This month we met at Jeff’s house and our theme this time was poker. Although Andy couldn’t make it, Scott, Josh, Jeff and I were all there. Jeff treated us with a meat tray, cheese dip, popcorn, a cake, and a ton of other snacks and goodies. Scott brought a home made lemon pie that was delicious and I brought some home made bread and cookies. The four of us ate for four hours straight and there was still a ton of food left at the end of the night.

The poker game was a lot of fun and this was the first time we played betting with blinds instead of standard poker betting. I think it worked better once we all got the hang of it. Scott brought several different decks of cards and after trying a hand or two with some tongue depressor-shaped cards (too hard to shuffle) we switched to the Hooters Deck which was a bigger hit. The point of the game was just to have fun and not to try and get rich so we just set a $5 buy in. I still haven’t decided what I’m going to buy with my $20 in winnings yet …

Reports of a “blizzard warning” were blown our of proportion Friday night. The temperature stayed above freezing, the roads were fine, and nobody had any problems getting to or from the party. Or maybe I did, I can’t remember. Jeff makes strong margaritas.

Like previous nights, the point wasn’t the planned activity as much as it was getting together to have some laughs and a good time. Every time we have one of these nights it reminds me why I’m friends with these guys. I’m looking forward to next month’s already.
