Rollin’ thru Rolla

Turns out, $40 motel rooms aren’t such a good idea and I should have known better. My biggest complaint about CiCi’s Pizza has always been that you end up sitting in a room eating with people who can only to afford to eat CiCi’s Pizza. (My second biggest complaint about CiCi’s Pizza is that their pizza sucks …) It would appear that this logic applies across the board, as I spent last night surrounded by a bunch of assholes that could only afford $40 hotel rooms at America’s Best (which is false advertising to the nth degree). The party directly above my room, which consisted of a lot of stomping and yelling, took a break around 2am as the jerks made a beer run. (Yelling. Door slam. Stomping down the stairs. Car door alarm beep. Car door slam. Booming stereo. Loud muffler. Tires peeling out. Reverse the order and repeat, fifteen minutes later.) Around 4am, still sleepless, I tried calling the manager on duty, but she never answered. Based on her age and the age of the people above me, I suspect she might have been at the party herself.

For $50 (w/tax) I got about two hours of sleep. THAT’S AWESOME I’M SO HAPPY ABOUT THAT. I would have slept better in my truck, which I considered moving to at some point in the night.

Right now I’m in the McDonald’s parking lot, ready to pull out. By the way, back home in Yukon at McDonald’s I get two breakfast burritos and an extra large sugar free vanilla iced coffee pretty much every day. It comes to $4.26 — trust me. In Rolla, “We don’t got extra large, sir, just regular large.”

“That’ll be $6.18, please pull up.”

Tomorrow night I’m staying in a suite and ordering room service. Seriously.

  1. I used to do the “get the cheapest hotel, I don’t care” thing years ago on my road trips. Not anymore for pretty much the reasons you stated (in addition I’d always find the hotel that was right next to a diesel train idling all night or where all the bikers would hang out).

  2. I lived 8 years in Rolla. Trust me, there’s a healthy dose of schadenfreude that I received from reading this post.

  3. *laugh* My kids’ school does a CiCi’s fundraising night each month. I hate it. The pizza is crap and it’s really loud. REALLY loud. If they had a decent salad bar, I might could be convinced, but seriously…

    Um, yeah… I’m a hotel snob, so let’s not go there…
