Wow, are we already 1/12 the way through 2009? Amazing! The key to succeeding in your resolutions is to keep on top of them. Here’s a brief (am I ever brief?) summary on how things are going:
01. Lose Weight.
(Doing okay. Eating better, still not exercising regularly.)
02. Read More.
(Read five books last month. Would still like to have a regular reading “schedule”. Working on it.)
03. Remodel Upstairs.
(Plans are being made, hammers have not been lifted.)
04. Thin Out Gaming Consoles.
(No progress.)
05. Record an Album’s Worth of Music.
(No progress.)
06. Write (at least) One Book.
(Ideas are swirling …)
07. Traincor — Get Moving.
(No progress, but getting inspired eight hours a day.)
08. Organize a Monthly “Movie” Night.
(Success!)
09. Load and Begin Using Linux/Ubuntu
(No progress.)
10. Attend, and Participate in, Blockparty.
(Registered for Notacon/Blockparty, started planning, and submitted to be a speaker. Moving forward!)
11. Go Digital.
(Still moving forward on this! So far, success!)
12. Use RSS.
(Success! I am now getting 90% of my web news via RSS. Pretty much all I read now are RSS feeds and forums.)
13. Relaunch the Podcast
(Progress. Scripted, but not recorded.)
14. Clean out the Garage
(Opposite of success. Put more stuff in the garage.)
15. Drink … Water
(So-so. I cut out everything but the morning sugar free vanilla ice coffees and the occasional margarita. I’m trying!)
16. Set aside two mini-gaming sessions a week.
(No progress.)
17. Update Review-o-Matic at least once a week.
(Success!)
18. Spend at least one hour a week out in the arcade.
(Mostly success. It’s been too cold this month to spend much time out there, but I did a few arcade-related projects in the garage instead.)
19. Set up a high-score tracking system out in the arcade.
(Progress — Jeff and I are working on this.)
20. Set up a game night.
(Success! (See #8))
All in all, not bad. One problem I have noticed with my list of resolutions is that I store them on the computer, so I only see them when I’m sitting at the computer. As a result, some of the things that need to happen away from the computer aren’t getting done. Today I’m going to print a few copies of this list out and hang them in different places, so I’ll be reminded of my goals in other places.
You set a lot of goals for yourself for this year. If you accomplish half of them you still will have done twice as much as most of us. My big goal is to lose weight and keep it off! Started Weight Watchers with a promise to myself to actually try to follow the system. Last year I started with the idea of just learning what it was about. I did, but it was basically a waste of time and money. This year I hope to make it a different experience. At my age, I’m not so worried about looks but about health and mobility. I have to keep up with the grandkids, and as they get older that gets harder. Regardless, roller skating is out (and so are Rip Sticks!)
