It happened quickly.
I had just finished digging around in my toolbox out in the garage when I turned, attempted to step over the lawnmower, and felt my right shoe catch on something. I was already stepping forward, so staying in place was not an option. As I felt myself begin to fall, I yanked my right leg in an attempt to free it from whatever it was snagged on and save myself from crashing to the ground.
It didn’t work. My knees were the first thing to hit the concrete, followed by everything else. The next thing I knew I was laying face down in the garage — my left foot twisted awkwardly, my right still tangled up in the mower’s throttle cable.
Susan’s in Washington DC again for work, so it was Mason who came to my rescue, helped me up, and dusted me off. I don’t seem to have sustained any permanent damage, although I’m definitely more sore today than I was yesterday. You know that pain you feel when you stretch a joint, right before it pops? My ankle feels like that every time I move it. My knees are sore, but not as bad as my ankle. My right shoulder, which has been bothering me for a couple of weeks, feels worse. My back hurts too, but my back always hurts.
Other than that, I’m great.
Last night I soaked in a jacuzzi tub full of hot water before putting ice on my ankle. I don’t know which treatment works better so I tried everything. If nothing else, my plan is to alternate heat and cold, confusing my muscles into healing. I also took some Ibuprofen, and later consulted a captain I’m friends with.
Captain Morgan.
I took today off from work to lick my wounds, soak, and rest up. Hopefully I feel better tomorrow.
