Last week my mom decided to pare down her old vinyl record collection, and gave me a chance to dig through the pile before the pile before they were sold or donated. I had a good time digging through the stack of records and found several that I had nostalgic connections with.
Surprisingly, Morgan found a few she wanted as well — not to listen to, but to display in her room. Morgan has taken quite a liking to John Lennon and The Beatles, so it was no surprise to me that those were two of the three albums she grabbed on to. I’m not 100% sure those were in the sell-or-donate pile, but when mom saw Morgan’s eyes light up, she agreed to pass them down.
When we got home I checked Amazon for 12.5″ x 12.5″ picture frames designed to display albums. There they were $12.99 each, but a Google search turned up a sale at Micahel’s — 3 frames for $11.99. A quick trip across town, and we were in business.
The border of the frames are black plastic and the front is glass. On the shelf they were marked at $22.99, but they did indeed ring up at half that price at the register.
The cardboard backing comes with four rotating clips attached along with a mounting bracket. After rotating the brackets, an album can be placed inside the frame and the backing can be reattached. I quickly discovered that these frames are designed for single albums. Double albums, like the White Album, are almost too thick. On that one, I had to settle for only using three of the four clips. Fortunately, gravity should keep the album from falling out.
Three screws later, the albums were hanging above Morgan’s bed. Both she and I were happy with the results, and I picked up another three frames so I can hang a few more albums on the wall around the house.
Would you be comfortable with the John/Yoko Two Virgins cover hanging up as artwork?
