Comments on: The Problem with Gyms https://www.robohara.com/?p=963 The Adventures of Rob, Susan, Mason and Morgan O'Hara Thu, 20 Dec 2007 20:20:40 +0000 hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.7.1 By: Stephen B https://www.robohara.com/?p=963#comment-461 Thu, 20 Dec 2007 20:20:40 +0000 http://www.robohara.com/?p=963#comment-461 Great idea. I could go for private stair climbers (when I am fatigued I tend to stumble a bit on them).

The small gym which I am currently using has been great. I was a little apprehensive when I first went in (I am overweight and felt uncomfortable even being in a gym). The manager asked me to look around and tell me what I saw. I looked around and stated “I see people working out.” He said “Right! What you don’t see is a bunch of people socializing. People come here to workout and leave. No one is paying any attention to anyone else unless they are being paid to do so.” I was sold and have been going every week since.

All have phone jacks so you can listen to the television in peace. It also has a stereo/cd/radio that you can use. The free-weights and machines are separated, so you’re not mixing the beginners and the ‘roid-heads. Best time to go is in the morning. Our gym opens at 5:00 a.m. and the crowd is usually older adults/senior citizens who want to do their workout in peace. A nice bonus is the free coffee too. :)

Otherwise, you might invest in a home gym. ($ CHA-CHING $) Those usually fail because lack of motivation to use it. If you’re motiviated to go to the gym, you’ll work out. Every garage sale has some type of gym equipment that was hardly used. Also, get a subscription to some Men’s health magazines. Those have great tips on proper workouts and healthy eatting.

The biggest problem with gyms is they expect you to actually do something! That’s why I have my treadmill in the back bedroom of my house. It sits there quietly and leaves me alone!!! Mom
