Stick with name brand speakers for computer use. Like TV speakers, computer speakers should be properly shielded so as not to interfere with the monitor and CPU.

I recommend looking for a basic pair of Altec-Lansing, Polk Audio, JBL, Boston, or Harman-Kardon. They are well worth the extra dough. They are also widely available at Thrift Stores (if that’s how you roll, and I kind of think it is).
