Incidentally I saw Weird Al’s concert in Des Moines for free (if you don’t count the cost of gas to get to Des Moines) but his merch table had so little in my size I ended up buying an Alapalooza hat and some trading cards. Actually they didn’t have much of anything – not even any tour videos or compact discs.

Gallup is the ultimate expression of the word “mañana”. That’s the Spanish word for “tomorrow” but, here in New Mexico (especially in the Navajo nation) it means “not today”. If you are in a hurry in Gallup, you’re in the wrong town. People will actually slow down if they see that you are in a hurry. And I don’t mean in traffic, I mean in all things especially customer service.

“The long and boring drive across Texas, New Mexico and Arizona for the most part…”. It’s long and boring in Oklahoma too, trust me. ;) In fact, if it’s not your home state it’s going to be long and boring. Personally I am not thrilled driving through Kansas or Nebraska.

Fun fact 2: Back in Bob Dylan’s earliest days he used to claim to have lived in Gallup for part of his childhood. No one has ever been able to substantiate this.
