WordPress/Facebook/Twitter, Round 3

Why won’t they make this simple? Why, why, why?

All I ever wanted in life was for WordPress to update both Facebook and Twitter whenever I posted new blogs. You hear that, universe? You can take back the money, the fame, the women … okay, there haven’t been that many women, but point being, this should be unbelievably simple to do! It’s just text!

Back when I originally signed up for Facebook, you could send updates to it, but not Twitter. Then for a short time you could do both, but Facebook then reloaded blog updates to a blog tab, a place no one ever clicks. Then that quit working. Then Twitter added a feature that allowed you to sync Twitter to Facebook. Then the WordPress-to-Twitter plug-in broke. Then they fixed it. Then Facebook changed something and Twitter could no longer talk to it. At some point I had planned on killing myself over all of this but I could never get the freakin’ announcement to go out so I had to call it off.

Now, Facebook has started lumping Tweets together — a good idea if people are just tweeting all day, but the vast majority of data going across mine are blog announcements! And so, with this seemingly simple task broken once again, I’ve spent two days back at the drawing board, once again reinventing the wheel.

WordPress still talks to Twitter, so we’re good there. For WordPress-to-Facebook updates, I installed “FT FacePress II”. I tried 839 other plug-ins before I got to this one. It works, and works well.

Additionally, on my PC and my iPhone, I installed TweetDeck, an app that will let you post to both Twitter and Facebook at the same time. The iPhone version is a bit of a mess, but the PC version works well.

The bell has rung and round 3 is over. After a ton of work, we’re right back to where we started. I can’t wait for round 4.

  1. At what point do you just go back to posting in 3 places? I would have already been there!

  2. Sounds like a lot of work, but glad you do it. I get a kick out of your posts and your blog
